Sinopsis

THIS SERIESThis seriesácollectsáthe true talesáof travelers in all kinds of situations maybe of which may be fearful, dangerous, and even life-threatening and what they didáto travel safely and securely. No one wants to encounter very scary and dangerous situations in the first place, but if they do, they want to travel as safely and securely asápossibleáto avoid or escape the dangers they may face.áIâÇÖve interviewed nearly 2,000 world travelers andáweaved the best of theirátales into a psychology of travel as revealed by these very telling stories,áThese are travelers IâÇÖve metáon airplanes, trains, buses, ships, tours, safaris, and in hotels, campgrounds, cafes, and pubs.áThese are courageous travelersáwho have shared their most joyous adventures as well as on occasion their fearful close calls, whether with wild animals, scary, menacing, and dangerousápeople, raging nature, or any number of other potential dangers.áWhile the focus of this book is traveling as safely and securely as possible and avoiding dangeráin the first place, the series also focuses on how to best avoid dangers and how to deal with them.áWhile most of us experience good and wonderful travel, others have had to deal with horrific and life-threatening situations, which I, in turn,áshare with you now through myáTrue Travel Tales series, specifically this bookáTravel Tales: Close Calls and Great Escapes.THIS BOOKáThis Book deals with primarily with the safety and security of the solo woman traveler. It is about how women and girls canátravel more safely throughout the world.áUnfortunately, travel todayáfinds us in a world of growing threats and dangers.áFor people who travel, having to deal withádangers and threats is daunting in the least. For most of us, travel is exciting and relatively safe, but for many women, traveling in some countries, particularly in North Africa and the Middle East, parts of Asia, Africa, and the Central and South Americas can often be risky and downright dangerous.áI have tales of travelers who have been caught up in very dangerous situations. The majority travel relatively safely, however, some of us may in our lives find ourselves confronting and dealing with a variety of dangers. Fortunately, most travelers can remain relatively safe, some escape with only minor difficulties, and, sad to say, some travelers have been unable to escape some of the dangers they have confronted.áTravelingáto potentially dangerous and forbidding places is not for the faint of heart. Many relatively inexperienced travelers are sadlyáunaware and must be exceedingly carefuláin their travels.áEvery traveler abroad needs to know about and prepare him- or herself to deal with a variety of dangers. Women have shared hundreds of their travel stories with me about how they have had to fend offáthe unwanted approaches of men, ranging from verbal harassment, unwanted overtures, and, yes, sometimes pickpocketing, robbery, assaults, and even rape at times!áPeople have said to me, 'Yes, I should have known better, I should have seen the signs. I should have taken better precautions.'áFinally, readers should know that some stories are quite graphic and they may want to exercise some discretion. As unpleasant as some stories may be they must nevertheless be told.
