Sinopsis

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers worldwide, affecting predominantly women and, less commonly, men. In India, it is a significant public health concern, as it is the most common cancer among women in the country. Its incidence has been increasing in recent years, partly due to changing lifestyles, urbanization, and improved detection methods.Delays in the diagnosis of breast cancer in India are a significant challenge, and they contribute to a higher rate of advanced-stage diagnoses and, consequently, lower survival rates compared to developed countries. These delays are influenced by multiple factors, which can be broadly categorized into sociocultural, healthcare, and economic factors. This book presents a summary of various case studies of women with breast cancer from a tertiary care hospital in central rural India. Are there any delays, and if yes, what were the factors leading to these delays? At what levels were the delays occurring either from the patient side or the healthcare system side, holistic findings from a qualitative inquiry into reasons for delays in breast cancer diagnosis in these patients?
