Robertson was a leading figure in the Scottish Enlightenment and is best known for his histories, including 'The History of Scotland during the Reigns of Queen Mary and of King James VI' and 'The History of America.' Robertson?s writings are characterized by their clear prose, careful scholarship, and emphasis on the progress of civilization.
